Full Leg Wax
Follow the half leg waxing module and then continue to treat the front of the upper thigh, following the direction of the growth of hair when applying the wax to the area. For comfort, split the treatment of the upper thigh into the sections that are dictated by the direction of the hair growth. Care must always be taken to ensure that the skin in the area to be treated is stretched and is as taut as possible during the treatment to ease hair removal and minimise discomfort to the client.
The first section to treat is the middle of the front of the thigh. It is important that when working on the upper thigh you pay particular attention to supporting the skin and muscles when removing the wax. The skin can be very easily bruised in this area and you want to make the treatment as comfortable as possible for the client.
The next section you should treat is the inside of the front of the thigh. Ask client to bend their knee very slightly and rotate the knee and hip towards you. Apply the wax in the direction of hair growth which usually can be seen to grow from the middle of the thigh inwards at an angle. Ask your client to assist you with the stretching of the skin in this area, as bruising can occur if the skin does not remain taut.
Next, move on to the outside of the thigh. You will need to ask your client to turn away from you onto their side, keeping the leg that you are waxing straight whilst bending the leg underneath slightly. Apply the wax following the hair growth pattern which is usually from the middle of the thigh towards the outside of the thigh at an angle.
Repeat on the other thigh.
Finally, move on to the back of the thigh by lowering the bed head and asking the client to turn over onto their front. Cover the leg that you are not treating with a towel to protect the client’s modesty and keep their upper body warm by covering with a towel. Before applying the wax, check the pattern of hair growth and apply the wax accordingly. Repeat this process on the back of the other thigh.
Check the thighs for any stray hairs and if there are any, remove them using sterile tweezers. If you are treating the bikini line you would do this after you have finished waxing the upper thigh and before you turn the client over to treat the back of the lower leg and upper thigh.
Apply a cooling aftercare gel or cream to the backs of the legs. Apply onto a pad of cotton wool and smooth over the area that has been treated. Using a tissue remove any excess product before asking the client to turn back over onto their front, raising the head of the couch once they are lying on their back again. Apply the cooling aftercare gel or cream to the front of the legs.
Ask the client if they are happy with the outcome and record on the record card. Talk to the client about any homecare products they can purchase from you to help the skin calm down after the treatment. Complete the client record card and give the client written aftercare advice and the opportunity to ask any questions they may have. Arrange the client’s next appointment at the reception after payment has been taken.
Bikini Wax
Blood spotting is likely to occur in the bikini line area as the hairs can be very strong. Always wear a new pair of disposable gloves and take care to dispose of any waste in the designated contaminated waste bin. A new disposable spatula must be used to apply wax to one area only and this must not be dipped into the wax pot again to avoid contaminating the wax pot.
Your client may be positioned lying down on their back on the couch with the bed head completely down or with the bed head up for this treatment. You must prepare the skin and establish how high your client wishes you to remove the hair from the bikini line. This could be just the area outside the line of their underwear or above it. The client should be asked to put on disposable underwear.
Never try to remove all the hair from the area in one go. Bikini line hair very often requires trimming prior to removal to prevent unnecessary discomfort as long hair can become tangled. It is best to leave the hair about three quarters of an inch long.
Assess the direction of hair growth before applying and removing wax across the top of the bikini line area. Only treat small sections at a time until the desired result is achieved.
The client should position their leg so that their right foot is touching their left calf when you treat the right side of the bikini line and when treating the left side, their left foot must be touching their right calf. Ask the client to help you by stretching the skin in the area to be treated, this can prevent bruising and help to make the treatment more comfortable for them. Apply wax to the upper portion of the side bikini line.
Apply wax to the lower section of the side bikini line at the top of the inside of the thigh. Check the area for any stray hairs and if there are any, remove them using sterile tweezers.
Repeat on the other side.
Apply a cooling aftercare gel or cream to the area. Apply directly onto a pad of cotton wool and smooth over the area that has been treated. Using a tissue, remove any excess product.
Abdomen Wax
Some clients may request their abdomen to be waxed. Ask your client to lie on the couch face up with the head rest flat. Protect any underwear with towels and paper. Assess the hair growth pattern and apply wax in small sections according to the direction of growth. Where necessary ask the client to assist by stretching the skin. The same principles as for bikini line waxing apply.
