Contra-actions to Hydro Facial

Contra-actions refer to adverse reactions that occur during or soon after a treatment or product application. Common examples of contra-actions include allergic reactions to products that can cause redness, soreness, or itching of the treated area.

It is essential to note all contra-actions in the client’s treatment plan, and identify their causes where possible.

This information can help to avoid similar reactions during future treatments. Some contra-actions are inevitable, and clients must be informed before undergoing any treatment.

Slight redness, irritation, or flaking of the epidermis is normal, but excessive reactions can be an issue. Some possible causes of contra-actions include:

  • Vacuum pressure setting too high
  • Slow movements on the skin
  • Applying too much downward pressure on the handpiece
  • Over-treating an area
  • Allergic reactions
  • Incorrect skin analysis
  • Inconsistent movements of the handpiece, leaving small, faint, red stripes on the skin
  • Using the wrong hydro-dermabrasion head, such as a diamond head that can make the skin redder and scratchier

If an unwanted contra-action occurs, some actions to take include:

  • Removing any products on the skin using cool water
  • Applying a cool/cold compress
  • If the contra-action is severe, the client should seek medical advice from a healthcare professional.
