To ensure that the client gains maximum benefit from a massage treatment you should recommend that they:
• Drink plenty of fresh water
• Reduce their caffeine intake (coffee, tea, colas)
• Avoid alcohol for 24 hours
• Try to cut down on smoking
• Make time to relax
Occasionally they may experience reactions when the body begins the self-healing process and elimination of toxins. These reactions may include and can be known as a healing crisis
• More frequent visits to the toilet to enable the body to get rid of waste
• Headache or nausea
• Runny nose and/or cough as the body rids itself of toxins
• Slight rash as the skin rebalances and rids itself of toxins
• Perspiration – another way that the body can excrete waste
• Conditions which have been suppressed may flare up temporarily before they heal
• unusually deep sleep, difficulty sleeping and/or vivid dreams
These reactions are only temporary and should clear within 24 to 48 hours. They are positive signals that the body has responded to the treatment and is balancing itself.
Many clients find immediate benefit from a treatment, however if a condition has been present for a period of time a course of treatments may be necessary to re-balance the body.
