BOWL REMOVAL
Some gels can be removed using acetone and this will depend on which system you use. Always ensure that you follow the manufacturer’s instructions when it comes to removing the product. Always protect the surfaces that you are working on from spills and ensure that the client is also well covered and protected. Buff the surface of the nail slightly using a medium grit file. This will encourage the nail to absorb the solvent for ease of removal.
SOAK NAILS IN BOWL OF ACETONE
Pour a small amount of acetone, just enough to cover the client’s nails, into small acetone resistant bowl and then place this bowl into a larger bowl of warm water. You can also purchase specially designed soak off bowls from your local wholesaler.
Ask the client to place their fingers in the bowl of acetone and cover the bowl with a towel, this will prevent any vapours from escaping. The time that it will take the product to be removed from the nail will depend on the system used and so you should consult the
manufacturer’s instructions (this is usually around 10-15 minutes)
FOIL WRAP METHOD
Always ensure that you follow the manufacturer’s instructions when it comes to removing the product. Always protect the surfaces that you are working on from spills and ensure that the client is also well covered and protected.
Buff the surface of the nail slightly using a medium grit file. This will encourage the nail to absorb the solvent for ease of removal. Apply Acetone to a cotton pad and apply to the surface of the nail plate.
Wrap the cotton pad in a layer of tin foil and secure it tightly in place. This will prevent the acetone from evaporating. Leave in place for 10-20 minutes. Remove one of the wraps to check to see if the gel is softening. When it is soft enough you can gently, slough it off the nail plate using a rubber tipped hoof stick.
STEAM REMOVAL
Always ensure that you follow the manufacturer’s instructions when it comes to removing the product. Always protect the surfaces that you are working on from spills and ensure that the client is also well covered and protected.
Gel Polish can also now be removed in as little as 10 minutes using a steam unit. This new innovation, safely warms acetone creating a mist which gently steams the nails for fast and damage free removal.
CLEANSE AND MOISTURISE
Once all of the product has been removed from the nail plate, remove the fingers and dry them using a clean towel before applying cuticle oil to the nails and massaging it in. Wash the client’s hands to ensure the oils and lotions are removed thoroughly prior to re-applying new gel product to the nails, if required.
Alternatively, buff the nails slightly to create a shine and apply a strengthening top coat if needed.
