AFTERCARE
You should always ensure that you give clear and thorough aftercare advice to your client at the end of every treatment. Where possible this should be given in writing. This can include advising the client about any retail products which may be beneficial to them. You should always advise your clients to book their next appointment when giving aftercare advice.
Give the client a written copy of your instructions so they can refer to them at a later date. You may also want to include recommendations of home-care products. Once the aftercare advice has been given, ask the client to sign their record card to confirm that aftercare has been explained.
RETAILS SALES
You must correctly advise your clients on how to care for their nails at home, otherwise they could damage their polish and even their natural nails.
You will also need to recommend products which they can use at home and this will increase your retail sales and therefore your profit.
Hand creams and cuticle oils can also be recommended to help keep the nails nourished. You should suggest that the client massages the oil into their cuticles every day.
Remember to advise the client that they should not pick at their gel polish as this can damage the natural nail. They should be careful with their nails and should not use them as tools. If a client notices any problems with the polish, such as discolouration of the product, they should return to the salon immediately.
WORKING SAFELY WITH ACETONE
Acetone is a clear, colourless liquid that is highly flammable. The potential negative health effects are skin, eye and lung irritation. Long-term exposure can result in dry, cracked skin and possible damage to the nervous system.
Safety Tips
- Make sure the area in which the acetone is used is well-ventilated
- Wear proper PPEs (gloves, goggles, mask)
- If you work with acetone on a surface, make sure the surface is a surface that doesn’t soak up the liquid
Acetone is a common item, but it can pose some serious risks, particularly in regard to its high flammability. By taking these simple steps, you can ensure a safe environment any time you use acetone.
ACETONE STORAGE
If you need to store your acetone, do so with a tight-fitting lid and store in a space where there are no electrical outlets, stoves, or heat-producing sources. Acetone is highly flammable and can be ignited from a distance.
DISPOSING ACETONE
As a business, you have a legal responsibility to ensure that you produce, store, transport and dispose of your business waste without harming the environment. This is called your duty of care.
The duty of care has no time limit. You are specifically responsible for your waste from when you produce it until you have transferred it to an authorised person. However your duty does not end when you hand over the waste to the next holder. It extends along the entire chain of management of your waste. If you think that your waste is not being managed correctly you must take action to check and prevent this.
YOUR DUTY
You Must:
- segregate, store and transport your waste appropriately and securely, making sure that you do not cause any pollution or harm to human health
- check that your waste is transported and handled by people or businesses that are authorised to do so
- complete waste transfer notes, including a full, accurate description of the waste, to document all waste you transfer, and keep them as a record for at least two years.
If a waste carrier takes your waste away, you need to check that they are authorised to accept it.
Disposal of Acetone together with normal waste is not allowed. Special disposal required according to local regulations. Do not let product enter drains. Contact a local waste disposal service provider in your region for more information.
