Perform Manual Massage – Neck, Shoulder & Chest

Perform effleurage movements across the clavicle, around the shoulder and up the back of the neck and the base of the skull. Draw your fingers up to the face and then stroke lightly back down to the starting position. Repeat this four times, gradually increasing the pressure each time.

Place one hand at the back of the client’s neck and one hand on the side of the client’s head and turn their head to one side so that it gently rests into your forearm. Starting at the back of the ear, on the lateral aspect of the neck, ensuring that you are not close to the respiratory structures. Finger knead down to the clavicle, working below it and round the cap of the shoulder then once you reach the deltoid muscle, use your whole palm to sweep back to the starting position. Repeat this twice before repeating the sequence on the other side of the neck.

Apply small, circular frictions using the thumbs across the pectorals, from the middle to the outer edges. Work round the cap of the shoulder and over the trapezius.
Concentrate the frictions here to help remove tension. Sweep back to the starting position. Repeat this movement twice.

Use the middle phalanx of the middle and index fingers to knuckle across the chest. Ensure that your fingers are slightly separated. Use large circular motions across the pectorals, round the cap of the shoulder, across the deltoids and in towards the trapezius. Sweep back to the starting position.

Perform effleurage movements across the pectorals, round the deltoids, up towards the base of the skull and back down to the starting position. Repeat three times, gradually becoming more superficial.

Hold one hand at the base of the neck and one hand over the forehead for a few seconds before slowly releasing your hands.
