BM019 Perform Manual Massage Treatments – Abdominal Massage & Back Of The Leg Massage
Abdominal Massage
Not every client will want an abdominal massage – you will need to check before commencing the treatment.
Place a small towel over the chest area and pull the large towel down to the hips in order to protect the client’s modesty.
Start the massage by applying superficial strokes from the lower border of the rib on one side, in towards the pubis and the same diagonal stroke on the other side to apply the massage oil. Repeat this twice.
Deep effleurage, starting with both hands at the pubis, going across the waist, round towards the back as far as you can reach and then lift the hands back to the starting position. Repeat this four times.
Use double handed lifting across the abdomen, from the sides to the centre, swapping the hands over with each movement. Repeat this four times.
Use the fingertips of both hands to stroke the colon using small circular movements. Start at the ascending colon, work across the transverse colon and down the descending colon. Gently stroke across the pubis back to the starting position.
Ensure you are moving your fingertips in a clockwise direction. Repeat this twice.
Perform circular strokes over the colon with the palms of both hands. Repeat this six times.
Repeat the deep effleurage movements from earlier starting at the pubis, going across the waist round towards the back and then lifting the hands back to the starting position. Repeat this twice, gradually making the movements more superficial.
Cover the client’s abdomen with a towel and place your palms on the abdomen for a few seconds to end the treatment.
Assist the client to turn by holding the towel up and covering their modesty, replace the towels over the legs and back.
Back Of The Leg Massage
Uncover one of the legs before using long sweeping strokes with alternate hands in order to apply the massage product. Repeat this three times.
Effleurage the leg from the ankle to the top of the thigh and back down using both hands. Keep the hands together on the downward stroke. Apply more pressure towards the top of the leg, keeping the touch superficial as you move lower down. Repeat this four times.
Apply deep effleurage movements to the thigh using the same method as you did for the entire leg. Repeat this four times.
Use alternate hands to lift the tissue from the inside of the thigh upwards towards the back of the thigh. Repeat this four times.
Palmar knead the back of the thigh using alternate hands, working across the whole of the thigh. Repeat this movement ten times.
With one hand at the inside and one hand at the outside of the thigh, lift and twist the muscles, swapping the hands over and then moving back to their original starting position. Repeat this wringing movement eight times.
Use light hacking, clapping and pounding movements over the thigh, ensuring that the entire thigh is covered by each one.
Sweep your hands down to the ankle and use both hands to effleurage the lower leg four times.
Support the outside of the calf with one hand whilst using the thumb of the other hand to roll the large parts of the calf muscle away from the centre. Work from the top of the calf to the bottom and repeat this twice before swapping hands and performing skin rolling movements on the outside of the calf.
Thumb slide up in between the gastrocnemius muscles in the back of the calf and then stroke back down to the starting position. Repeat this three times.
Use your fingertips and both thumbs to knead around the Achilles tendon.
Use both hands to perform superficial effleurage movements from the ankle to the top of the thigh. Repeat this three times.
Hold the hands at the sole of the foot for a few seconds before recovering the client’s leg.
Repeat the massage on the back of the other leg.
