Drill Bits
It is best if the drill bits you use are made of carbide. Whereas diamond bits create a lot of fine dust which gets into the air and is a health hazard, carbine bits create heavy, large particles which do not float in the air so easily. Using an e-file with a carbine bit also means that you will need to apply very little pressure to get the results you require, making it an efficient way of progressing the nail treatment.
There are a wide variety of bits which are specialized to specific tasks, some common and useful ones include:
• Medium barrel bit – this is used to shape and reduce the length of the artificial nail
• Round top safety barrel bit – the round safety top makes this bit the best choice for beginners, again this bit is used to shape and reduce the length of the artificial nail
• Backfill bit – the backfill bit is a quarter of the height of a barrel bit and is used to cut a new smile line on the nail, it can remove up to two weeks of regrowth as well as remaining product from the nail.
• Under-nail cleaner bit – used to tidy the underside of the free edge
• Mandrel bit – sanding bands are slid onto the mandrel bit, each sanding band is disposable, and a new one needs to be used for each client. The sanding bands come in various levels of coarseness.
